Dental Cleanings and Exams in NE Calgary

Dental Cleanings and Exams Near You

Dental cleaning and examinations are recommended biannually to patients by most dentists. Dentists look for any signs of dental and oral issues by conducting an evaluation of the teeth and gums through visual and tactile exams and x-rays. Once your dentist completes these steps, your dentist or hygienist will clean the teeth thoroughly, removing calculus and plaque that you are unable to remove at home.

The Dental Exam

Your dental exam will include the following:

A digital x-ray: This is used to examine areas of the bones and teeth which are not visible to the human eye. Your dentist will detect if decay, tumors, cysts or bone loss is present. These conditions are unnoticed on the surface.

Complete evaluation of the gums: Your gums and tissues surrounding the teeth will be examined to determine if signs of periodontal disease, gingivitis and receding gums are present.

Examination of the teeth: Your dentist or dental hygienist will closely observe the teeth to determine if there is decay or damage present.

Screening for Oral Cancer: A complete examination of the head and neck will be conducted. This allows your dentist to look for signs of tissue change. Your dentist in NE Calgary will look at your face, neck, tissues and gums to detect symptoms of oral cancer.

The Dental Cleaning:

We provide dental cleanings near you, which will include the following:

Tartar removal: Your dental hygienist will remove tartar also referred to as calculus. The calculus is a hardened plaque that is difficult to remove.

Removal of Plaque: The plaque on the surface of your teeth is removed to cleanse your mouth and rid it from debris that accumulates over time. Debris in the mouth has the ability to cause gum inflammation which can lead to periodontal disease.

Polishing of the Teeth: This is an essential part of your dental cleaning as it removes the remainder of debris and plaque in your mouth.

Topical Fluoride Application: Fluoride remineralizes the teeth, making them stronger. Your teeth will be more resistant to decay and less prone to sensitivity.

We continue to receive several emails and phone calls from our patients eagerly waiting to schedule appointments. We anticipate opening the office very soon for emergency and non urgent dental care very soon. I have been taking steps to ensure a high level of safety for our staff and patients once we are open.

We will limit the number of patients in our office at any one given time and make sure that social distancing between patients is followed as recommended by Dr. Hinshaw (Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer) and the Alberta Dental College.

Germs and viruses can spread easily so we want to make sure we are doing our part to protect our patients and staff through prevention measures. We will be having mandatory protocols in place for hand washing, sanitization of workspace and our staff wearing masks.

There will be limited staff available and we will make our best efforts to answer phones from 9am to 1:00 pm from Monday to Thursday to schedule emergency and non urgent dental care. If we do not answer your call please understand that we are assisting another patient or feel free to text me at 403-703-1914.

Please know that the safety of our patients and staff is our highest priority. We want you to feel comfortable the next time you visit our office knowing that we have taken the steps to protect everyone.
